About

The P.G. Department of Zoology, established in 2004 at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada, is a leading centre for teaching and research in zoological sciences. The department offers postgraduate, M.Phil. (now discontinued), and Ph.D. programmes with a strong emphasis on both classical and applied zoology.
The department is actively engaged in interdisciplinary research areas such as wildlife biology, molecular biology, toxicology, cancer biology, bioprospecting, and tribal health. It has received major funding from agencies like DST, DBT, UGC, MoEF, and BRNS.
With well-equipped laboratories including PCR, Real-time PCR, ELISA, tissue culture facilities, and advanced instrumentation, the department provides a strong platform for research and innovation. Faculty members have contributed significantly through publications, patents, and technology transfer.
Students from the department qualify national-level examinations like NET, GATE, ICMR, and ICAR, and are placed in academia, research institutes, industries, and government sectors.

The Post Graduate Department of Zoology, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (Earstwhile North Orissa University) is a dynamic and thriving center of academic excellence and research innovation, established in the year 2004. The department offers Master’s and Doctoral programme designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed for successful careers in academia, industry, government, and non-profit organizations. The curriculum has been specially designed to include the prescribed syllabus of CSIR, GATE along with Project-based learning to make the students globally competitive Our aim is to promote research, innovation, experimental learning, participatory learning, Critical thinking and entrepreneurial skills with deep disciplinary knowledge and exposure to latest frontline developments in the field so that the students are ready for global competitions
We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of zoologists and fostering a deep appreciation for the complexity and diversity of the animal kingdom. In addition to our strong academic programs, the Department of Zoology is actively involved in community outreach and environmental conservation initiatives. The different areas of research activities of the department include Wild life Biology, Biodiversity Conservation, Remote Sensing and Geographical Information System, Toxicology and Stress Biology, Molecular Oncology, Developmental Biology, Fish Biotechnology and Genotoxicology. Many alumni of the Department are well placed in teaching, research, administrative service of various Government, Semi-Government Institutions, Universities etc. Few students placed in industries also, some self employed.
