About
The Post Graduate Department of Chemistry was established by MSCB University (Erstwhile North Orissa University) in August 2004. The Department offer programs leading to M. Sc. and Ph.D. degrees. Since its inception the Department has made great strides by revising and updating the syllabus time and again. With its excellent instrumentation facility the department is well equipped to execute research in frontier areas of Chemical/Physical/Materials Sciences spanning a broad range of areas including organic synthesis, catalysis, nanochemistry, functional materials and theoretical/computational Chemistry. It has received funds from University Grants Commission (UGC) under Departmental Special Assistance Programme (SAP) (2009-14) and Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India under FIST Programme (2009-14 & 2019-24). Faculty members of the Department have received funds from different national agencies viz. SERB, UGC, CSIR, DST, BRNS, and ANRF etc for execution of their research projects. Regular seminar presentation is organised by the Department where M.Sc. students presents scientific talks to promote interactive learning among students. The Department has a strong network of its alumni for career support, mentorship and also contributing to our fundraising efforts. Apart from this the Department invites our alumni on a regular basis to deliver talks that bridge the gap between their aspirations and achievement. The Departments also organizes National Level Seminars on frontiers areas of chemistry to foster scientific exchange and inspire our budding chemists through insightful lectures by distinguish experts. Our students have been regular qualifiers of various national level entrance examinations both for higher education as well as for regular placement. The Department possesses several sophisticated instruments to support research in frontier areas which includes Dynamic Light Scattering, Fluorescence Spectrofluorometer, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, , Pore size analyzer, TG-DTA, desk top powder XRD, Ion Exchange Chromatography, Lyophilizer, Rotary Vacuum Evaporator etc., water thermostat with (-20 ºC to 80 ºC) with circulating facility, Oxygen Permeation Meter, Limiting Oxygen Index etc.

HOD's Message
Welcome to the webpage of the Department of Chemistry! The faculty members in the department are highly qualified, research driven and committed to excellence in contemporary research and teaching. Since its inception the department has recorded consistent improvement in its academic, research and placement performance. The department strives to nurture scientific temper, innovation and professional competence among students. With our state-of-the art laboratories the student gains hands-on experience in laboratory/research settings that fosters analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. The chemistry syllabus is constantly upgraded to ensure that the students keep up with current topics of interest. In the final year students undertake project work which introduces them to the rigors of chemistry research. Our research interest spans various areas of chemical sciences, ranging from synthetic organic and inorganic chemistry to computational, physical, and materials chemistry. The department encourages collaborative research, industry interaction, consultancy, and outreach activities to bridge the gap between academic and societal needs. I invite you to explore our programs, research initiatives, and outreach activities. We look forward to engaging with you in our shared pursuit of knowledge and discovery.
