About
The Post-Graduate Department of Botany of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (Erstwhile North Orissa University) is established in the year 2004. The department is bestowed with well-trained faculty having wide array of research exposure and teaching experience in various aspects of plant sciences. The department imparts teaching at M.Sc. and Ph. D. levels with an objective to provide quality input to students both in teaching and research. We intend to expand academic co-operation by offering new curriculum, upgrading programmes to a wider spectrum and promoting collaborating research on development from broad interdisciplinary prospective. The Department received the Assistance from DST-FIST, UGC, NRSC, MoEF& CC, ISRO, DST and OSHEC from time to time for conducting quality research in diversified branch of plant sciences.
The Department offers two year M.Sc. course in Botany (35 seats) along with Ph. D. course in the subject. The Department imparts teaching in all aspects of plant science. A student can opt for any elative (special) paper from branches like Biochemistry, Biosystematics, Environmental Pollution and Management, Plant Biotechnology as per his/her choice. The curriculum has been designed as per recommendations of the University Grants Commission with modifications from time to time, UGC-CSIR (NET), GATE and Civil Services Examinations. The syllabus for Post-Graduation course consists of four semesters with theory, elective, practical and project for partial fulfillment of M.Sc. degree. From academic year 2013, the University has introduced choice based credit system (CBCS) in Master degree uniformly in all subjects. The University adopted cumulative grade point average (CGPA) for evaluation.
Besides class room teaching, study tours, field trips and plant exploration cum collection trips are organized at regular intervals for better exposure of students. Students are made proficient to speak in weekly seminars on current development on plant science. During Ph. D. course work, the students are well grounded to survey of literature, deliver seminars and design research experiments on different branches of plant sciences of their choice.
