Dr. Bhubaneswar Sabar teaches at the Department of Anthropology and Tribal Studies, Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (Erstwhile North Orissa University), Baripada, Odisha. Prior to joining this university, he served as Assistant Professor at Centre for Multidisciplinary Development Research (CMDR, Dharwad (ICSSR Institute), Higher Education Department, Govt. of Odisha and Gangadhar Meher University, Sambalpur. He received his academic training from University of Hyderabad, University of Delhi and Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. His academic interests include tribal studies, public policy, ecological anthropology, and critical ethnography. He has published a number of research papers in journals of international reputation including Economic and Political Weekly, Journal of Asian and African Studies, Social Change, etc. He authors two books titled Food Insecurity, Coping Strategies and Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (2015) and The Chuktia Bhunjia: Culture, Custom and Change (2026). He also co-edited a book titled Tribal transformation and development in Eastern India (Aayu Publication, Delhi, 2025). He has handled major research projects funded by Government of Karnataka, ICSSR New Delhi and IDRC Canada. As one of the recipients of Endeavour Research Fellowship, 2012 and Adivasi Fellowship, he was affiliated to the University of Sydney, Australia and London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of London respectively.
