About
The Department of Physics, established in the year 2004, has been imparting teaching and research in emerging fields of Physics through regular M. Sc. and Ph. D. programmes. A certificate course was introduced in this Department in 2021. Also, courses on Indian Knowledge System and Life Skill were introduced since 2024. The syllabus of different courses has been made up-to-date incorporating subjects ascertained by the UGC.
The Department has been functioning in Academic Block-3 with adequate facilities namely ICT-enabled classroom, laboratories, Computer lab, girl’s common room, ICT-enabled seminar, and convention hall.
Faculty members of the Physics Department are Dr. Susmita Kar, Dr. Indrajit Naik, Dr. Pravanjan Mallick (HOD), Dr. Priyadarshini Sanghamitra Sahoo, Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Sahu, and one laboratory technician Dr. Srikrushna Mohanta. Each faculty member has more than 20 years of teaching experience.
The thrust areas of research in the department are High energy Physics, Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, Nano-Science, etc. On average, 10-15 research articles are published in each academic year by the faculty members in different high impact factor journals of international repute. Various projects funded by different funding agencies like UGC, DST, UGC-DAE CSR, IUAC, etc are running by our faculty members.
Student progression in national institutions, namely IISc, IITs, NISER, IISER etc. is praise worthy.
