PERSONAL INFORMATION

I am Dr. Jatindra Nath Besra. I completed my graduation from Baharagora College, Baharagora with Santali Honors. After this, I completed my post-graduation in Santali subject from Ranchi University, Ranchi in 2008. I have done Diploma in Gujarati Language from Western Regional Language Centre, Pune, Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore in the session 2009 – 2010. I obtained my Ph.D. degree in 2016 from the Department of Tribal and Regional Languages, Ranchi University, Ranchi. My research topic was “Analytical study of folk songs of traditional festivals of Santals”. Since May 2017, I am working as an assistant professor in the Santali department of Maharaja Shriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University. I taught Santali as a second language to non-tribal students at the Eastern Regional Language Centre, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, before joining Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University, Baripada. I taught there from 2010 to 2015, and around 60 students learned not only to speak Santali but also to read and write it. So far, under my guidance, 4 students have obtained M.Phil. degree and 4 students are continuing their Ph.D. research work. I have published two books (1. Modern Santali Grammar, Part-1 and 2. New Basic Santali, Hindi and English Vocabulary). Apart from this, I have translated the book Forest Rights Act- 2006 from Hindi to Santali language. I have been a jury member for the 2021 Bal Sahitya Puraskar for Santali language and a jury member for the 2023 Yuva Sahitya Puraskar on behalf of the Sahitya Academy, New Delhi. Along with teaching in the department, I am performing responsibilities in various works of the University. I continue to publish my research articles in various journals. I am also working as co-editor of Saonhed Aarang magazine. I am a member of the board of study of Santali subject in various Universities and colleges of Jharkhand, Bengal and Odisha.
